Twelve Years of Work, Silenced Overnight: Why We’re Moving On from YouTube

This past February, something deeply disheartening occurred: our YouTube channel — the home of Design Education Talks and our international Design Education Fora — was permanently removed without warning and without any clear explanation.

No strikes. No prior notice. No opportunity for discussion.

All the channel contained was thoughtful content — conversations with educators, designers, and thinkers from across the globe, discussions about the future of design education, and recordings from our international fora. It was a living archive, built patiently over twelve years. It represented hours of care, dialogue, generosity, and intellectual contribution from people committed to shaping the next generation of designers.

And then, in an instant, it was gone.

We appealed the decision multiple times. Each attempt was met with silence — faceless, automated responses, devoid of humanity. We were given no justification, no opportunity to understand what had happened, and no avenue for restoration.

The experience has been profoundly upsetting. Not only because of the sheer scale of the work lost, but because of what it reveals about the vulnerability of creators who depend on platforms that operate with opaque, unaccountable systems of control.

We did not violate any community guidelines. There was no controversial or questionable content. Our mission has always been — and remains — educational and inclusive: to advance discourse in design education and amplify diverse voices in our field.

But this moment has forced us to reconsider where we invest our time, our trust, and our archive.

And so, with disappointment behind us and clarity ahead, we’ve decided to move on.

From now on, our podcast, recorded lectures, and events will be published on Odysee, a platform that respects creators and offers a more transparent and decentralised infrastructure for sharing knowledge. It isn’t just about finding a new digital home — it’s about regaining ownership and refusing to be silenced.

We’re in the process of rebuilding. It will take time. But we’re committed to recovering what we can and continuing to grow — with renewed focus and even greater determination.

To our listeners, collaborators, and guests: thank you. Your support, contributions, and belief in this project mean everything. We invite you to join us in this new chapter, and help us ensure that thoughtful, critical, and passionate dialogue in design education continues to have a platform.

A door has closed — unfairly, and without reason. But a new one has opened.

And we are walking through it.
