Universities, as we know them, are on the brink of obsolescence. They have drifted into a realm where learning has been reduced to mere research, and teaching has devolved into mere instruction. The New Art School emerges out of necessity—a response to the scientification of Art and Design within the university system’s outdated approach.
Our mission is to cultivate the next generation of artists and designers through a curriculum rooted in the synergy of observation and the coordination of hand, heart, and eye. We reject the mechanistic approach of the so-called “mac monkey.” Here, the use of hands is not just encouraged; it is fundamental. This tactile engagement with the world is what defines us as creators.
We are dismantling the traditional grading system and the concept of failure. In their place, we foster an environment where learning is self-directed, and students bear full responsibility for their educational journey. The wealth of information now accessible online frees us to focus on learning through action, embracing the process over the outcome.
Our focus lies in nurturing ideas, honing skills, and developing abilities. We aim to reverse the pervasive climate of blandism that stifles creativity. By empowering individuals to take ownership of their learning, we strive to produce independent thinkers capable of designing not just art but their own lives.
The New Art School is a call to action, a movement toward a future where artists and designers are liberated from the confines of outdated educational structures. We are committed to fostering a space where creativity thrives, uninhibited by the constraints of traditional academia. Here, the journey of creation is as vital as the final work itself, and the artist is at the heart of it all.
We must always remember that we are standing on the shoulders of giants (in no particular order): Giorgio de Chirico, Alan Fletcher, Paul Rand, Walter Gropius, Johannes Itten, Jan Młodożeniec, Otoman Zar-Adusht Ha’nish, Franciszek Starowieyski, Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Phil Cleaver, Neil Postman, Janusz Stanny, Emil Ruder, Wiktor Górka, Margaret McMillan, Karol Śliwka, Marshall McLuhan, Anthony Froshaug, Max Miedinger, Janusz Stanny, Eduard Hoffmann, Willy Fleckhaus, Roman Duszek, Adrian Frutiger, William Morris, Jan Tschichold, Jan Sawka, Ulaf Leu, Roman Cieślewicz, David Carson, Joost Schmidt, Teresa Żarnower, Brian Love, Jake Abrahams, Christine Newton, Herb Lubalin, Wojciech Zamecznik, Brian Eno, Tom Geismar, Ivan Chermayeff, Jan Lenica, Friedrich Fröbel, Michael Twyman, Phil Cleaver, Scott Bultman, Kristina Lamour Sansone, Lance Wyman, Anton Stankowski, Franciszek Starowieyski, Etienne Delessert, Shigeo Fukuda, Henri Mouron Cassandre, Dieter Rams, Joseph Müller-Brockmann, Henryk Tomaszewski, Cal Swann, Yasuhisa Yamamura, Paula Scher, Eric Gill, William Caslon, Paul Renner, Jan Młodożeniec, Karl Gerstner, Kristina Lamour Sansone, Günter Gerhard Lange, Wojciech Zamecznik, Ferdinand Theinhardt, Tom Geismar, Hans Rudolf Bosshard, Jeff Willis, Andrzej Klimowski, Dan Fern, David Blamey, David Holmes, Herbert Bayer, Emmanuel Zacharakis, Nikolaos Kazantzakis, Nick Corston, Jan Sawka, John Taylor Gatto, David Rodriguez, Karol Śliwka, Marc Lewis, Sir Henry Morgan, Anne Bonney, Christopher Corr, Massimo Vignelli, Alan Kitching, El Lissitzky, Neville Brody, Sam Conniff, Etienne Delessert, Seymour Chwast, Wim Crowel, Saul Bass, Bob Gill, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and many many others.
